Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a polyurethane elastomer that can be plasticized by heating and dissolved in suitable solvents. It is an (AB)-type block linear polymer composed of two main segments. Segment A is a high-molecular-weight polymer polyol, which can be either polyester- or polyether-based, with a molecular weight ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 and is referred to as the long chain. Segment B is a diol containing 2–12 straight-chain carbon atoms, known as the short chain.
TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a widely used thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) with applications across various industries, including automotive, transportation, aerospace, sporting goods, and medical devices. It is also commonly used in footwear manufacturing, magnetic tapes, inks, adhesive tapes, automotive components, and cable sheaths.
