GALL CAS#8008-63-7

Ox bile extract, also known as purified oxgall or sodium choleate, is produced by evaporating the alcohol extract obtained from concentrated bile. It consists of varying proportions of bile acid salts, along with lipid components such as cholesterol and lecithin, as well as choline compounds, glycocol, and other substances.

The bile acids present in the bile of most vertebrates primarily occur as sodium salts and are derivatives of the steroid cholanic acid. The main bile acids include cholic acid, which is 3,7,12-trihydroxycholanic acid; deoxycholic acid, which is 3,12-dihydroxy-5-cholanic acid; glycocholic acid, also known as cholylglycine; and taurocholic acid, also known as cholyltaurine.

Bile salts, and consequently ox bile extract, are useful in certain food applications due to their emulsifying and surfactant properties. Cholic acid, deoxycholic acid, glycocholic acid, taurocholic acid, and ox bile extract are generally recognized as safe.

Product Application of GALL CAS#8008-63-7

Ox bile is traditionally used for purposes such as clearing the liver and improving eyesight, promoting bile secretion and bowel movements, detoxifying and reducing swelling, and addressing conditions associated with wind-heat eye disorders, jaundice, constipation, diabetes, infantile convulsions, carbuncles, and hemorrhoids.

Ox bile is also an effective natural wetting agent and can be used with watercolor paints to improve their flow properties. In addition, it is used in marble patterning, engraving, lithography, and textile dyeing. Ox bile has also been used as a plasticizer in sizing formulations.
