Product Description
This product appears as a purplish-red powder with moderate water solubility. When dissolved in water, it forms a bright red solution. Upon adding dilute sulfuric acid, the aqueous solution changes to pale blue; concentrated hydrochloric acid produces a wine-red precipitate, while concentrated alkali causes the solution to turn reddish-orange-brown.
It is slightly soluble in ethanol, producing an orange-colored solution, and insoluble in acetone. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it exhibits a bright red to magenta color, which changes to brownish-orange after dilution. In concentrated nitric acid, it forms an orange-yellow precipitate. It is insoluble in concentrated alkali but dissolves in concentrated ammonia to produce a bright red solution. During staining applications, its color becomes deeper in the presence of copper ions, while no noticeable color change occurs with iron ions.

Product Application of Direct Red 23 CAS#3441-14-3
Direct Red 23 is a red to purple powder that is soluble in water, producing a bright red solution, with a solubility of approximately 30 g/L at 80°C. It is slightly soluble in ethanol, forming an orange-colored solution, and insoluble in acetone.
In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears bright red to product red, and after dilution, the color changes to light orange. The dye solution forms a wine-red precipitate when treated with concentrated hydrochloric acid, turns light blue with 10% sulfuric acid, and changes to red-orange upon adding concentrated sodium hydroxide solution. No significant color change occurs with 10% sodium carbonate solution.
Direct Red 23 demonstrates excellent dye uptake on cellulose fibers, with the highest affinity at 80–100°C, and offers strong acid resistance. During dyeing, copper ions deepen the color shade, while iron ions have little effect on the color.
It is mainly used for dyeing cellulose fibers such as viscose, and can also be applied to silk, wool, paper, and pulp dyeing. In addition, it can be used as an intermediate for manufacturing color pigments.
