Products Description of Polyphosphoric Acid CAS#8017-16-1

Polyphosphoric acid is a polymerized form of phosphoric acid. Generally, phosphoric acid with a purity of 100% or higher is referred to as polyphosphoric acid. It appears as a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid, with viscosity increasing as the concentration rises. At a concentration of 115%, it exhibits a glassy and highly viscous state.

Heating can effectively reduce the viscosity of polyphosphoric acid, allowing improved fluidity for certain industrial applications. At room temperature, it presents as a transparent, syrup-like liquid, while at lower temperatures it can transform into a solid, glassy material.

Polyphosphoric acid is a corrosive diprotic inorganic acid with strong hygroscopic properties. It is readily miscible with water and hydrolyzes to form orthophosphoric acid without crystallization. Due to its corrosive nature, appropriate handling measures are required during use.
